It is a centuries-old skill that’s uplifting in every sense of the word! Knowing how to make your own bread is not only liberating, delicious and cost-effective, it’s a skill that lasts you a lifetime. Not to mention filling your home with that unmistakable, comforting smell!
Whether you’re a die-hard foodie or a family home cook, there’s nothing like beautiful, quality fresh bread to complete your table.
Our Bakery Workshop shows you just how simple the techniques are to transform building blocks of flour and leaven into endless types of baked goodies, including:
You don’t need to be a great cook, or even have a lot of experience in the kitchen to participate. Our workshop is designed to let you work from the most basic of home equipment, so that you can launch your baking adventures at home immediately!
Over the course of the day we will get you confident in understanding how to handle flour and dough and know how the different doughs should feel in your hands when it has been kneaded enough.
We take it completely from scratch – grinding our own flour on site with our stone mill, and showing you different methods in proving dough.
What’s more, when you make your own you get to control exactly what goes in – skipping the flour treatment agents, chemical boosters, sugar and other unnecessary ingredients added to most commercially-made breads. Slowing down the process of proving dough also results in a more digestible, nutritious loaf than speed-baked supermarket versions.
You might want to make sure you’re planning a gathering with family or friends straight after. You will be taking home a LOT of freshly baked goodies!
The workshop runs from 10am to approximately 4pm. All workshop notes, morning tea and a lunch featuring produce from the Cheesemaking Workshop’s garden and orchard are included.
Please note, this workshop requires a minimum of four people to run.
