Flavouring Yoghurt

It has been decades since I have purchased yoghurt from a store, and flavouring yoghurt yourself easy.

There’s many reasons that making your own, fresh yoghurt from scratch. Firstly, you know exactly what is going into your yoghurt, including sugar content. We choose to flavour our homemade yoghurt with fresh, seasonal produce – wether it is strawberry, passion fruit, mango or stewed apple. So here a few of my tips for making your own delicious flavoured yoghurts.

You can swap the strawberries in the first recipe for the fruit of your choice.

  • 1 kg pre made yoghurt
  • 1 punnet of strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon of icing sugar.

2) French vanilla yoghurt

  • 2 tablespoons of icing sugar
  • 2 teaspoons on vanilla

3) Spiced apple yoghurt

Flavouring yoghurt

1) Strawberry yoghurt

Remove the stems and foliage from the strawberries, place them into a container with the icing sugar and blitz with a stick blender until smooth.

Swirl the strawberry mix through the yoghurt.

2) French vanilla yoghurt

1 litre milk with the probiotic culture added and milk powder. Stir in the icing sugar and vanilla and incubate the yoghurt in the yoghurt maker for a minimum of 10 hours, chill before serving.

3) Spiced apple yoghurt

Peel, core and dice the apple, place into a heavy based saucepan with the sugar and cinnamon. Gently heat to slowly release the juice from the apple and cook until the apple is soft, cool completely and fold through the yoghurt.
