Fonduta

Who doesn’t love warm melted cheese. Add in some butter and you’re in a cheese lovers heaven.

If you’re having trouble sourcing Fontina, contact our deli. While it’s not a cheese we keep in stock all the time, we’re certainly able to do our best to get it in for you!

Ingredients

  • 150g of diced fontina DOP cheese
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 2 tsp’s of butter
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Salt and pepper to season

The delicious Italian version of the Swiss fondue. Warm melted Fontina cheese makes an incredibly rich fonduta, perfect for cooler winter evening.

Method

Place diced Fontina Val d’Aosta cheese and milk into a fondue pot or small saucepan.

Put over a low heat, stir constantly to melt the cheese and to incorporate the cheese and milk.

When melted and combined, remove from heat, stir in the egg yolk and butter until thoroughly mixed in. Season with salt and pepper to taste. The mixture should be thick, very creamy and smooth.  

Serve with crusty bread, over potato or with asparagus, cauliflower or broccoli. Fonduta is also delicious served with shaved truffles or truffle oil to garnish. 

A dish like this is always best served with friends. Enjoy!
