Greek baked cheese

Prep time 5 minutes cooking time 10 minutes.

Melbourne has the largest Greek population outside of Greece and I love Greek food!

So on a mission we went to find a traditional Greek restaurant selling home style Greek food in Melbourne. We found it. Tsindos Greek Restaurant in the Greek precinct @ 197 Lonsdale St Melbourne and this is my take on one of the delicious dishes we had, Greek Baked Cheese.

100g of fetta

100g of haloumi

10 cherry tomatos or similar

1 small red chilli

1 clove garlic finely sliced

Approximately 6 sprigs of thyme

Approximately 2 sprigs of oregano


Crumble your homemade fetta and haloumi into a small flat baking dish, ensure to cover entire bottom of the dish with your cheeses.

Halve the cherry tomatoes and evenly scatter over the top of the cheese.

Remove seeds from chilli and chop finely them,  scatter over the cheese.

Place sliced garlic, sprigs of thyme on top of the cheese and tomato, remove oregano leaves from stalks and scatter that over the top.

Once assembled, bake in a moderate oven for approximately 10 minutes until the cheese is melted.

Serve with crusty bread, smashed potato or slightly cooked greens of your choice.
