March Deli News: Beemster Cheese

Beemster Premium Dutch Cheese is a traditional Gouda from Holland, but unlike any other Gouda, you’ve tasted… It is made from exceptional milk from happy, pasture-raised cows (with no artificial hormones). They use traditional recipes and even age cheeses on traditional wooden boards. What not to love!

Lactose and Gluten-Free

Yes, you’ve heard it right, aged Beemster is lactose-free! Lactose naturally ages out of cheeses. Once the cheese is aged 4 months or longer, it becomes lactose-free. Beemster cheeses are also completely gluten-free. Incredible, right?!

In addition, Beemster washes the curds multiple times during cheesemaking and this also removes lactose cheeses.

Our Beemster Deli Range

Rich and Flavourful Beemster cheeses are available in a range of ages, as well as with flavors mixed into them. Our Deli range includes the following:

  • Beemster Medium
Medium, semi-soft & tangy. This cheese pairs well with red wines and dark beers. It’s perfect for Croque Monsieur.
  • Beemster Aged
Profound flavor, firm and bold with a smooth, rich feel. It pairs well with reds, port wines, and dark beers.
  • Beemster XO
This is the longest-aged Beemster cheese. It’s famous for its rich flavours of butterscotch, whiskey, and pecan. Beemster XO has tyrosine crystals in it that result in delicious “crunchies”. It pairs well with roasted macadamia and cashew nuts, green olives, and white grapes. The intense aroma of Beemster XO pairs extremely well with reds, heavier beers, and whiskey.
  • Beemster Royaal
Uniquely sweet flavour. It’s great in sandwiches, cheese fondue or any cheese platter.
  • Beemster Royaal Grand Cru
Rich and robust flavour. It has firm and smooth with some crystalization. Pairs well with craft beers (IPA and Pilsner alike), full-bodied reds, whites, and cider.
  • Beemster Graaskass (based on availability)
Graskaas is made only once a year (hence the limited availability). Once the spring grass has grown, the cows are let out into the fields to feast. Graskaas is made from this first Spring milking. It is the richest, creamiest, and sweetest milk of the season. Graaskass basically captures the fresh, sweet, joyful flavors of Spring in Holland.
